Tooka Piranesi is folk artist; adventurer, prophet and occasional burlesque performer. This web site is a gallery of his current work and a virtual repository for archival material.
History:
Hatmandonolo D’sadda Tooka Piranesi was born in Gormaton in the Glabbular Wastes to the north of Tookaland in 1669. He studied painting and philosophy in the roots of an ancient tree far removed from polite society. The next part of his life was spent exploring the forested hills and meadow valleys of Tookaland. Tooka Piranesi now spends his time alone wandering the fringes of the known world and recording his experiences in a series of small black books, crude artworks and poorly constructed sculptures.
Other comments and fragmentary information:
‘Current scholarship completely fails to rank Tooka Piranesi. He is one of the most unknown and misunderstood artists of our time.’ Dr Alexander Severus
Tooka Piranesi believes that by following the ‘Path of Awe’ and continuing the practice of what he calls his ‘folk-surrealism’ he is capable of elevating himself and the rest of the world to a higher state of consciousness. Tooka Piranesi believes that without this, the world will be consumed by the unconscious.
When measured against the possibilities laid out in the existing blueprint offered by contemporary culture, his is a bold vision.
Tooka Piranesi is a highly complex and imaginative individual who walks the knife edge between the blinding light of awe and the dark oblivion of the void.
